Magnet School At a Glance:
- A magnet school is a public school of choice, open to all students in the Santa Fe School District. If the idea of a small school following the IB (International Baccalaureate) curriculum focused on a thinking person's program, learning language and culture, “internationalism”, graduating with the highly respected IB Diploma and being able to stay in the school for six years, appeals to students and parents, then they can choose to submit an application. That is the idea of a magnet school. MIMS is currently an IB MYP Candidate school.
- Admissions is through a lottery process (explained later).
- Opened with grades 7 & 8 in August 2014 and adding a grade per year until 7 – 12 in 2019.
Location: The Mandela International Magnet School is located in a separate wing on the DeVargas Middle School campus for 2014-15 and 2015-16. Some facility resources will be shared with DeVargas such as the cafeteria, gymnasium, and library. The central location will provide access for students across the district. Transportation will be provided to and from other Santa Fe Public School sites as regional "hubs". Beginning with school year 2016-2017, MIMS will be housed in its own permanent location.
