MIMS Continues Partnership with Harvard's Project Zero

As a result of a grant from a local foundation, the Mandela International Magnet School (MIMS) is partnering with Harvard's Project Zero (HPZ) from 2014 through 2017. Harvard's Project Zero is an arm of the Harvard Graduate School of Education and for the past forty years has been considered the premier group of educational researchers who have made ground-breaking contributions to educational quality in the United States and around the World. The ATLAS Schools Project, the Teaching for Understanding initiative, Arts PROPEL, the Lincoln Center Collaboration, the Thinking Dispositions Initiative, and Making Thinking Visible authored by Dr. Ron Ritchhart, The Theory of Multiple Intelligences, authored by Dr. Howard Gardner, and his subsequent Good Work Project, the pioneering use of portfolios, "Teaching for Understanding" from Dr. David Perkins, are but a few of the profound contributions that Project Zero has made to education.

Two of HPZ's leading researchers, Drs. Ron Ritchhart and Veronica Boix-Mansilla, began their three year partnership with the MIMS staff on August 6-8, 2014 and are working with the faculty throughout the next three years in establishing the thinking routines and culture so necessary to succeed in the IB (International Baccalaureate) program and in our increasing need to develop global competencies. Dr. Ritchhart is the leading researcher at PZ on Thinking Dispositions and Making Thinking Visible and Dr. Boix-Mansilla leads in the area of interdisciplinary learning and developing global competencies.  Both are interested in chronicling the learning that instituting "Cultures of Thinking" has in a start-up internationally focused school.
